About Fear Free

The Fear Free certification was developed by “America’s Veterinarian,” Dr. Marty Becker, to help prevent fear and anxiety in pets during veterinary visits. It is a gentle approach used in a calming environment. Utilization of Fear Free methods and protocols leads to the reduction or elimination of anxiety triggers, and creates an experience that rewards your pet with treats, praise and love.

The results of using Fear Free techniques include calm and happy patients that are willing to accept treatment, the reduction of fear, a safer working environment for staff, more compliant clients, and overall better veterinary care. We have found that it has been a great asset to our patients and our practice.

Our entire staff is dedicated to assisting your pet. We understand that coming to the veterinarian’s office is typically not an animal’s favorite thing to do. That is why we are so excited to be Fear Free certified so that we can assist your pet in staying healthy.

What does being Fear Free Certified mean?

Our hospital must adhere to specific qualifications in order to be certified as a Fear Free facility. The entire staff must be certified Fear Free Professionals and the hospital undergoes yearly recertification. Some of the requirements for Fear Free Certification include:

  • Calming pheromone use
  • No white coats/walls
  • Special lighting
  • Calming music
  • Separate dog and cat entrances, exam rooms, and treatment areas
  • Large, homey exam rooms
  • Tools: a variety of high-value treats, Thundershirts/caps, white noise machines
  • Special non-slip flooring and soothing paint colors
  • Fear Free handling techniques for gentle restraint
  • We do as many treatments as possible in the room with the owner present

Our entire staff is dedicated to assisting your pet and helping them feel comfortable. We understand that coming to the veterinarian’s office can be stressful for our patients, and we utilize our Fear Free training to create a relaxing environment in order to decrease fear and anxiety. Our goal is to ensure that our patients love coming for their appointments.

We are always available to answer your questions. We never want you to be confused when you leave our office.
